The total incarcerated population in the United States has hovered over two million individuals since 2002. According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, that number jumps to 6.6 million if you include people on supervised probation or parole.[1] That’s more than the entire population of Alaska, Hawaii, New Mexico and Montana, combined.
